Win Mapserver Postgis layer error again

I can definitely tell you from bitter ;) experience recently that you
MUST use lower case "from" in the sql, i.e.
the_geom from not1
is the correct version to use. I can't help you with why it crashes
postgresql, but I can say that I have got it working successfully on
winxp using the ms4w packages from http://www.maptools.org/ms4w so it is
possible.
