PHP Mapscript region selection

HI,

 

I have just started exploring the PHP-mapscript, and got my basic
mapserver demo working (display the image, zoom in, zoom out, and pan),
Is there a way to select a region and zoom-in? instead of point click
zoom? Do I need to have an applet for this?. Can anyone give me a sample
php code that does region selection? 

 

Here is an example that allows region selection

I guess this uses java applet.
