Errorlog/errormessages? (problem is drawReferenceMap)

I am having troubles with making a referencemap using this:

$referencemap=$map->drawReferenceMap();

The real map is already made - perfectly. So it is only when I try to make
a reference-map things go bad and the output aborts.

Trying to solve this myself I was looking for an error-log, but it simply
is not there. Where do I turn it on?
