Gregor, Many thanks for the help. I implemented the code, and it worked well. I still have the problem of transforming coordinates in degrees into map extents. Specifically, I need to create maps around points given in latitude-longitude coordinates (i.e create map of 1000x1000 meters centered on lon -87.1, lat 25.8) any ideas?
