select an area on the map

Hi everyone,
How can I select an area on the map by dragging the mouse in order to make a square containing this area? I have set up mapserver using an example where when i click with the mouse on the map mapserver centers on that spot.How can I select a whole area by creating a square while dragging the mouse on the map?
