Asynchrone clients? (continues vectordata retrieval / use gdal directly?)

Thank you, this openlayers viewer really looks great. However, i want to
have the viewer running on vector data.
Currently we have a prototype-flashviewer(based upon the flash output of
mapserver), but due to the amount of data in the viewer, the rendering
becomes really slow (the conversion movie --> memory takes a lot of time)
