[OpenLayers-Dev] Summer of Code: Why two 'web-based configuration' ideas?

Don't know how the meeting went, but I'll throw in my thoughts.

I like the idea that OpenLayers supports the reading and writing of
various vector formats (to and from our vector feature model). It also
makes sense to me that OpenLayers should be able to serialize the map
state. We've got a solid WMC parser now, so we can read and write Web
Map Context documents. When OWS Context is settled, we can add in a
parser for OWS Context.

Lorenzo already has put together WMS capabilities parsing. I have
written a parser to do the same. I think these can be brought in to the
trunk in the near future.

All this is pretty straightforward and doesn't make for very exciting
SoC material (in my mind).

If anybody is proposing a project that would do WMC parsing but would
not use the OpenLayers.Format.WMC, then I don't think this project
belongs as an OpenLayers SoC project. Same goes for WMS Capabilities
parsing. If you're going be doing something different with WMS
Capabilities than creating a list of layers usable by OpenLayers, then I
don't really see the point in having this be an OpenLayers SoC project.

Perhaps all that is not very relevant, as I didn't read the MapBuilder
logs or any log of an #openlayers chat. Just my opinion.
