Comment:

 This behavior is the same behavior as you get from many many other similar
 functions. Though this may not be consistent across the entire library
 (nothing is), I don't think that there's any reasonable argument that can
 be made that there is an obvious expected behavior here, or any reason
 that we need to put this nto this function specifically.
