[OpenLayers-Users] overwriting functions

I'm seeing that functions are not overwritten if the function is not directly
on a certain OL class, but on an inherited class.
I mean, if I overwrite a function in OpenLayers.Layer, it's not seen by
OpenLayers.Layer.Google for example.

Any clues?
