 From my installation, uDig cannot be opened from the Start menu:

 Start > OSGeo4W > uDig

 ... does nothing.

 Inspecting the shortcut properties, I see the target is:
 {{{
 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\ " C:\gnu\OSGeo4W\apps\udig\udig.exe
 }}}

 This should be corrected to simply:
 {{{
 C:\gnu\OSGeo4W\bin\udig.bat
 }}}
 (note that the correct OSGEO4W_ROOT needs to be set here by the installer,
 I think)
