Scott,
3 to 8 Meg should be ok.

We don't have Wine installed on OSGeo-Live (yet). How much extra space 
would wine include?

If your linux version is stable, that would be preferable. Do you think  
the linux version will be stable by the end of Jan 2011? (We don't want 
new users to run into any bugs or crashes while testing applications on 
OSGeo-Live).
