Alex,
I downloaded the latest version of VMWare (again), uninstalled the old
version and installed the new, along with a patch, which I found by
googling "vmware server ubuntu 9.10". I should have documented my steps
and put into the build wiki.
I'm trying to dig back through my steps, but an behind an incredibly
poor hotel internet connection and can't squeeze enough bandwidth to
find the web pages.
I think it was explained on this page:
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-vmware-server-2-0-x-in-ubuntu-9-10-karmic.html

You will probably need to do something similar.

Although, I suggest that you would probably do better to start with
building the click2try image if you can get it working.
