[pdal] Code in PDAL

I ran into PDAL crashes attempting to crop point clouds with my M1 Mac and started a thread on MacPorts:

The PDAL maintainer for that project traced the problem to a try/catch block:

Evidently exception handling works differently on an M1 Mac, resulting in the program failing when passed a 2D bounds.
