There is nothing "wrong" with that but it is just one more thing that 
someone has to do and document. With the exception of cmake the needs to 
be at least 2.8, and postgresql 8.4+ we put very little version 
requirements on the dependencies. This is in part because we mostly use 
very basic and simple features of those packages.

We are working on improving our game. Rev 2.0 was a big step in that 
directions and it help from you and the community we hope to get better 
in future releases.

Feel free to open a ticket and we will make an effort to collect more 
information for the next release.
