 Ah, makes sense not using ST_Transform then if it would just fail the
 validation later anyways.

 As for ST_Collect being faster I just noticed the note in
 [http://postgis.refractions.net/documentation/manual-svn/ST_Collect.html].
 It's still surprising there's that much of a difference when dealing with
 simple bounding boxes between the two.
