 That LostGIS API is quite interesting - thanks for posting it.

 At first glance it seems like that's probably about the best that can be
 done to make the current PostGIS overlay functions error-free.  I'm
 guessing that there must be situations where they don't produce a
 "reasonable" result however?  Have you observed anything like this?
