To get rid of 7.3, you have to use your package manager, rpm on redhat.
I do not know how to do this on redhat, as I use debian which use
dpkg/apt as package management.

However, using package management and compiling PostgreSQL itsself are
not really on-topic here, so you may get better help on appropriate
lists where the experts lurk around.
