You should be able to kill the backend process via the task manager.

Some "within" queries may need lots of CPU time for complex polygons.

That the query shutdowns the Postmaster process seems to be a bug.

Can you try to identify some pairs of geometries that forthe the
Postmaster to shutdown?

And can you run isvalid() against all geometries involved, to make shure
they're all valid?
