that one rings a bell too - in this case, I think I had forgotten to

btw, does the file /usr/lib/pgsql/liblwgeom.so.1.2 actually exist?  If 
so you might want to check the postgres lib directory by running 
pg_config --libdir, which will tell you where postgres looks for library 
files

On my system where everything was installed to wherever the vanilla 
.configure scripts chose to put them, the liblwgeom.* files are all in 
/usr/local/pgsql/lib (which is where postgres is expecting them, 
according to pg_config --libdir)
