[postgis-users] error installing Postgis

Laura et. al,
Just in case it wasn't clear to some. If you are running Windows 64-bit
(e.g. 7, Xp, Vista 64-bit), PostgreSQL 32-bit runs just fine (and I think
in many cases better since each individual connection can use up to 4GB so
if you have an 8GB memory it could use all of it where as as I recall 32-bit
can only see 4GB period),
but you have to install the PostgreSQL 32-bit version to use the PostGIS
binaries we have.
So please don't think just because you are running a 64-bit OS you have to
use the PostgreSQL 64-bit version.
Also curios Laura,
Are you compiling PgRouting yourself, I don't see any binaries for 9.0 on
pgRouting site, so you may want to use PostgreSQL 8.4 (which only runs in
32-bit) if you don't want to compile PgRouting yourself.
http://www.pgrouting.org/download.html
Hope that helps,
Regina and Leo

Laura,
That error usually happens for one of 2 reason
1) You are running PostgreSQL 64-bit. Note that all the PostGIS builds for
windows we have currently are 32-bit so will ONLY run with PostgreSQL
32-bit. We haven't been very successful yet
building a 64-bit version, and no one it seems, is all that interested in
helping us on that. This leads us to believe that there aren't all that
many people interested in running PostGIS in PostgreSQL 64-bit on windows.
2) The other possibility is you didn't copy in all the dependency files.
Make sure you copied all the files from the bin folder in the zip file to
your PostgreSQL/9.0/bin folder.
I suspect you are missing one or more.
Alternatively -- If you installed PostgreSQL via the installer, you can also
install PostGIS via the stack builder installer that is packaged with
PostgreSQL.
Hope that helps,
Regina and Leo
