[postgis-users] How can I update proj4 without recompile

Hey folks,

I am trying to update the proj4 libraries on my postgis because I think the
older version of proj4 is giving me faulty areas (known bug). I would like
to go from 4.8 to 4.9.

In talking to some friends I found out that I can make a sym link from the
existing proj4 to a newly compiled proj4 without an issue. But, I can't
seem to figure that out completely and need a little help.

# Here is what is running on my system:

select version();
    PostgreSQL 9.5.10 on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, compiled by gcc (Ubuntu
4.8.4-2ubuntu1~14.04.3) 4.8.4, 64-bit

select postgis_full_version();
    POSTGIS="2.3.3 r15473"
    GEOS="3.4.2-CAPI-1.8.2 r3921"
    PROJ="Rel. 4.8.0, 6 March 2012"
    GDAL="GDAL 1.10.1, released 2013/08/26"
    LIBXML="2.9.1"
    LIBJSON="0.11.99"
    RASTER

# here is what I have done so far:

- locate the directory of the postgis
    pg_congif --pkglibdir
- get information about what libraries are associated with postgis
    ldd postgis-2.3
        libproj.so.0 => /usr/lib/libproj.so.0 (0x00007ff19e1dd000)

# this is where I loose the thread

I don't know if when I make install if there should be a file I need to
link here?? Yeah I need a clue and would be grateful for any assistance on
this.
