[Qgis-developer] ogr2ogr vs shp2pgsql?

Hi all.
AFAICU, the spit plugin uses ogr2ogr to convert shapefiles in pg_dumps.
This often throws errors, whereas the equivalent shp2pgsl (from postgis)
performs much better.
I understand using ogr2ogr is much more general, and it could allow
conversion between many different formats, but I believe the efficiency
improvement could justify this switch.
Any thoughts?
