Hi Andreas,

maybe there are some qt plugins missing from the osgeo4w installation.
Look for a "plugins/imageformats" directory somewhere in the
installation. On my linux system with qt4.5 I have a plugin for
several image types: gif, ico, jpeg, mng, svg, tiff.
