I think there is an even better 3d option: derive it from the geotiff
(or other) file. Unless you have one of those rare files which have
nonsquare grid cells, it is perfectly possible to derive the origin
and grid cell size.
A 4th approach is doing what sextante is doing afaik: resample the
grids if they don't match.
