I have a patch pending on my machine, but I have found out it needs
more work than just running few "sip.setapi(...)" calls. In PyQt4
QVariant API v2 there is basically no QVariant anymore. Given that we
use QVariant.Type for things like defining QgsField types, we need to
find a workaround (in PyQt4 they had a bit similar situation with
QSettings).

I still would like to get it into 2.0, but recently I have been too
busy with real life to do anything with it. In the following weeks I
should be able to find more time, so hopefully we will make a switch.
