Hi Mathieu,

Have you had a look at QGIS Customization already?
http://linfiniti.com/2011/07/customizing-the-qgis-ui/
It's straightforward to optimize the interface without any programming
at all.

You may then use python only in a second step for whatever you need for
customized features.
