[QGIS-Developer] Problem with atlas rule-based styling

On the same topic:

I wonder why the Atlas rule applies on main canvas at all? Shouldn't it 
only be applied in the print composer?

I always found it very, very, very odd that Atlas changes my main canvas 
at all. I think it should only change map symbology in print composer.

Or is this some old design or limitation?
