Sorry, I confused macports and homebrew. I see that qgis is pointing to
macports (and there's the caution not to install both, probably because
they use the same prefix).
The warning text at
https://qgis.org/download/ macos section
is
⚠️ QGIS versions for macOS notice
The QGIS installers for macOS are currently outdated and may not
reflect the latest version shown in QGIS notifications. We are
actively working to update the macOS packages. If you need newer
features or fixes, please consider installing QGIS via MacPorts. Thank
you for your patience and understanding.
which doesn't mention "dependencies from 2021".
Something else which I've always found awkward is that the installater
is
https://qgis.org/downloads/macos/qgis-macos-ltr.dmg
which seems to have variable content. For caching, for clarifyt, and
for reproducing a specific install on a new computer, I would far rather
see this be:
https://qgis.org/downloads/macos/qgis-macos-3.40.5.dmg
and just have the link in the page changed.
As another random comment, I find
"Download QGIS for your platform"
followed by
windows stuff
and then
"Other Platforms"
to be strange. I would expect the title to be just
"Download QGIS"
and then a "Windows" section, just like the other platform sections,
with no "other platforms" header. That's very windows-normative!
