Hi all,
thanks Nyall for raising this. One other thing to stress is the need,
before opening a ticket, to check carefully whether a similar ticket has
already been opened. This brings us back to the usability of our current
bugtracker: I find difficult to find possible duplicates and similar
issues, and I believe this is a daunting task for newbies.
One crucial point is to make it easy for a good-willing user to sponsor
a bugfix. I think a good way would be to add a button "Donate xxx to
help fixing your bug". Of course this raises a number of issues to be
analysed carefully not to raise false expectations nor cause heavy overhead.
Finally, we should remember that well researched tickets are a good
source of knowledge, and we should be careful not to discourage users
from opening them.
All the best.
