Hi,

That attached file (shp file) still shows up in the wrong projection.
I'll be bold and ask, if anyone wants to, they can upload it to
koordinates.com and make it public. (that's what im doing with it). The
website 'should' automatically detect it's projection and upload it
correctly. (it should cover all of the province of Newfoundland and
labrador, Canada)

Interesting, the Complete Install of OSGeo4W does download the latest Qgis
1.7 version ... but gives me the same error.
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/DYCGWnClDihw1A4ZhKiqng?feat=directlink

I selected to install Everything.
It appears that within the qgis appication there is the option under plugins
to Add the plugin of
ogr and gdal tools. ... unfortunatly it's on the PC version were i dont
have internet :(

So i try version
QGIS-OSGeo4W-1.5.0-14307-Setup and got the same error
and
QGIS-1.4.0-1-No-GrassSetup.exe<http://qgis.org/downloads/QGIS-1.4.0-1-No-GrassSetup.exe>
installed seems to avoid that error, and the program works :) .. so it was
something that was introduced between version 1.4.0 and 1.5.0 which produced
this error. Nifty. :)

... and in the QGIS Plugin Installer, i like how there is the option to
"Check for updates on startup" ... for version 1.6 Im wondering why the
option to "Check for updates" is not available under "Help / About ..." as
this is available in other programs, so then the user know that they have
the latest version (of the complete software)?

So anyway, the problem persists, so i guess its something that im not
doing, as i have now heard from multiple people that the projection turns up
correct on their computers.

Anyway, I'll be attending the Victoria Geo-Geeks session, hosted by Paul
Ramsey,
http://www.meetup.com/Victoria-GeoGeeks/calendar/15625902/
so i'll ask their if anyone is currently using this software, who might
people able to help solve this problem.
Qgis does seem like a cool program, but i think that it is as complex as
trying to learn AutoCAD Architectural Desktop 2000 in 2 days :-) (which took
me a college class going through the manual with step-by-step tutorials ...
and there is tonnes of stuff that it misses.

Thanks for the help everyone. ... i think i need to work on something else,
as this is frustrating...

cheers,
sam
