Thanks Giovanni, this is a hard nut to crack for me for whatever reason. 
I insert a new field with table manager and it will enter the zeros in each cell automatically. I have many soils to deal with and don't want to enter a null in each cell manually. How can I fill the column with nulls or delete all of them painlessly?  :)
