Hi Richard -

Be my guest, knock yourself out, go ahead - It's always nice if other 
people can use the work that was invested in this project ;-)

I haven't too much time to spare the next month or two, so you have my 
full permission to write an article about this method. I can of course 
help you by "proof" reading the article before publishing if you find it 
necessary.

And I agree fully with you about using an ini file based approach to 
save settings for Qgis :-)
