[Qgis-user] Finding lines in a second layer

Hello

i have the following question how i could the best perform the following:

i have two layers for which i want to to select in layer 1 an object (in my case a line segment)
and find in layer 2 all the objects (line segments) within in a specific radius like r = 2km.

I know i can do manually in map canvas and make a select but it shall be more automatically
like telling QGIS the ID of the link
