[Qgis-user] Layer extent

Hi all,
is there a way to manually set up a layer extent?

I have a huge view in SQL that is too slow on loading because qgis scans
the entire view to find the extent.
An alternative could be instruct qgis to use a specific spatial index for a
specific layer
