[Qgis-user] Update QGIS-Desktop

Hi Ralf,

by default QGIS installers install into independent and version-specific 
directories. You can adjust this, but if you would install into a 
previous version's directory, it would be a mess and also not unregister 
the old version in the OS registry, menus etc.

The usual workflow is uninstalling the old version(s) independently from 
the installation of a new version. If you automate this as part of your 
deployment process or if you leave the older versions on your users' 
systems, is really your choice. For controlled end-user environments I 
would recommend adding the removal of the older version as part of the 
upgrade to a new version.

User data is kept separately from the application so this is perfectly 
save. Newer QGIS versions might save things that are not supported by 
older versions into the user data though, so using multiple, different 
QGIS versions in parallel can lead to (smaller) issues. (QGIS 3.x and 
4.x do NOT share their user data between the major versions 3 and 4, but 
all their subversions do share between themselves).
