[Webcom] [OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo upcoming events list needs love

Hi Anne, Jeff, Frank

It looks like Daniel's message to news_item at osgeo.org did not result in
content appearing in the osgeo.org/events list.

Given that few people are currently adding content themselves, I'm happy to
make content edits to the web site if you forward through messages to me.

We have two immediate options for ensuring that the events/news can be seen
in all locales:
1. I can manually create multiple pages - one for each locale - initially
containing identical content
 OR ...
2. We can try Arnulf's suggestion to turn off i18n [1]:
"One suggestion is to only include one block for news without i18n and
allow people to post in their respective languages. It's not that we are
suffocating in news items anyway and the odd item in Greek, German or
Lithuanian language will just show that we are a truly global org".

We should choose one or the other as they are not compatible approaches:

Motion: Try turning off the i18n modules, this should have the result of
making multilingual content appear on the site - showing that we are truly
global and ensuring that content can be seen in all locales. If this fails
then we can workaround the problem by creating multiple pages for each item.

+1 Ian

Since this is a temporary workaround it feels like we should take a
decision on the webcom list and just make this happen - I'd like to push
the bigger question of the website upgrade to the board (see discussion on
webcom/SAC lists).
