 Side note: The 2 tests introduced to check this also fail in 2.4 but they
 don't return invalid geometries and instead return NULL. Since NULL is a
 valid response, and backporting this to 2.4 requires a lot of changes I
 recommend anyone facing this to update to 2.5+
