 I now believe the original submission in this bug is different, in that it
 was about a corrupted topology resulting from loading data from a single
 thread. The problem reported by Lars in comment:6 and then simplified by
 me is instead about the inability to populate a topology due to an
 exception with a message reporting a topology corruption that doesn't
 really exist. I've created ticket #5394 to track that case, so we can keep
 this for the original submission.
