Comment (by strk):

 The failure is due to `ptarray_signed_area` being unable to compute non-
 zero area of a triangle with outgoing spikes (collapsed parts). The use of
 `long double` fixed this on some systems but it's a partial fix as it
 depends on platform, apparently.
