Gary sorry didn't know about SPIT. Doesn't come with the prebuilt
binaries I guess. Is there a pluggin for dumping shapefiles too? I just
haven't figured out how to get QGIS to export features.

QGIS has a plugin (SPIT) that does this very thing (been around since
version 0.1). We have planned to release this as a standalone
application (it compiles as both a plugin and an app) but haven't had
the time...

Unless of course your comment applies to the GUI style and not the
functionality...
