What version of postGIS and GEOS is this ? My understanding (not yet tested) is that the newes GEOS release may help this sort of thing.

Subject:	[postgis-users] error in GeomUnion closing connections
Hi Everyone--

I am a new subscriber, so I apologize if I ask a question that you may have
seen before...

I am using the GeomUnion function to union two geometries. The function
comes across a geometry it can't handle and sends back messages saying:

NOTICE: TopologyException: no outgoing dirEdge found (X,Y)
ERROR: GEOS union() threw an error!

Ok, so maybe there is something wrong with this geometry. (Although I tried
to union the same two geometries in ArcView, and got no error, so I wonder
if it's a JTS limitation). In any case, I just skip this and proceed on to
the next command. But it never gets to the next command. Instead, it waits
and waits and then finally I get a message saying "Server closed the
connection unexpectedly." What is even more odd is that it seems to close
other connections to the server at that point, too.

I would not expect a function error to catastrophically hang up a database
like this. Has anyone seen this before? Is there a workaround?

Thanks
