As an aside to your aside:  not that I know of, but I have always
believed that integrating a matrix data type (make vectors n x 1)  and
the associated linear algebra libraries would be an unbelievably
useful addition to Postgresql.  Not that I am going to do it, but
somebody should for summer of code or something.
