[postgis-users] hi, anybody could tell me how postgis works with postgresql?

hi, anybody could tell me how postgis works with postgresql? the processing
mechanic between them?
I want to write a clustering algorithm on postgis, and don't know how to
develop ?
And how to set up my developing environment? I'd like to use Eclipse CDT.
