I don't think so, since the same rendering functions are used to get the
point symbols for the map canvas.
However, that gives me an idea for a workaround: Set the symbol size to be
much larger, and in the print composer, set the symbol scale to be much
smaller. I doesn't work perfectly, but it might help until we can implement
a better fix.
