[Qgis-user] "Official" QGIS Web Client?

Hi,

I agree with all of you - there are plenty of web clients out there that
can collaborate well with QGIS server.

God knows why every small company is starting its "own" web client and
doesn't collaborate with the already existing ones ... maybe it is
because they are not so familiar with the frameworks used by the other
web clients (or don't like the choice of frameworks). Maybe it is also,
because it is relatively "easy" to create something from scratch with
the tools one is already familiar with - but at the long run - I think
it is a not so wise strategy that there are so many web clients out
there. It is a fragmentation of resources. One can create something fast
that covers 80% of requirements, but the remaining 20% are often the
hardest. I am personally disappointed about this fragmentation - and
ithis fragmentation does not help the user. It helps our commercial
competitors.

For a web client to be "official" - in my opinion - it should be under
the QGIS.ORG github repo. So far, only "QWC2" is under the official
QGIS.ORG repo. QWC1 was also - it was the very first web client that
existed for QGIS server - but it is now deprecated. This does not make
it any better, but maybe more "official", as it is under the control of
QGIS.ORG and not by a single company. In the case of QWC2, while
Sourcepole is currently the main contributor, there are already many
other contributors who collaborate. And who knows - in the future it
might be a different company that contributes more.

But it is important to show the different options that are available and
then the user who wants to find a web client, can choose by himself.

Just my two cents,

Andreas
