Hi
When publishing plugins a developer can choose any name to give their
plugin. At what point do we act to prevent users from using known
product names as their plugin name.
A typical example of the plugin GeoNod
<https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/geonod/>. Taking this name at face
value a users might associate it as the official plugin from GeoNode
<https://geonode.org/>. I have opened an issue asking the author to
reconsider naming his plugin to something different
<https://github.com/Segl-segl/geonod-qgis/issues/1#issuecomment-6443133278>.
Should we enforce anything related to this or we just leave it as it is
and we let the end users decide. I think we could add some rough
guidelines to the publishing page to nudge developers to have names that
are distinct and separate from known established products.
If i was an owner of Nike and someone produces a product called Nik and
sells it next to my shoes would i be worried ?, maybe not, but food for
thought.
Regards
Admire
